Japan Earthquake: Helicopter aerial view video of giant tsunami wavesMay 25, 2012 A ferocious tsunami spawned by one of the largest earthquakes on record slammed Japan's eastern coast on Friday, killing hundreds of people as it swept away ships, cars and homes while widespread fires burned out of control. Police said 200 to 300 bodies were found in the northeastern coastal city of Sendai, the city in Miyagi prefecture, or state, closest to the epicentre. Another 137 were confirmed killed, with 531 people missing. Police also said 544 people were injured. Fresh footage of huge tsunami waves smashing town in JapanMay 24, 2012 As survivors of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami grappled with the enormity of the devastation, more footage emerged on Sunday showing the moment the tsunami struck Japan's northeast coast. Residents of the port town of Kamaishi in Iwate prefecture watched in horror as the first huge tsunami waves hit, sweeping away cars and buildings. One group managed to scramble to safety on higher ground, where they watched as the water surged towards them. Others were stranded on the roof of a multi-storey building as the water level rose rapidly below. New dramatic video: Tsunami wave spills over seawall, smashes boats, carsMay 24, 2012 This dramatic video shows a tsunami wave smashing into the Japanese town of Miyako, in Iwate Prefecture. The wave crashes over the seawall carrying away everything in its path, including boats that topple over the wall and are smashed into a bridge. Cars were simply washed away, crashing into each other and buildings. More than 1400 people were killed by the quake and resulting tsunamis and hundreds more were still missing, according to officials, but police in one of the worst-hit areas estimated the number of dead there alone could eventually top 10000. Tsunami Climbing: Incredible video of ship heading into wave in JapanMay 25, 2012 The Japanese coast guard released a video on Saturday showing the massive tsunami waves swelling in the sea off the coast of northern Japan, after the 9.0-magnitude earthquake struck offshore on March 11. The footage showed the first huge wave rising up above the prow of the coastguard ship as it sailed straight towards it. Two more waves followed. TsunamiMay 23, 2012 It is almost two years since I have uploaded this video. The outpouring messages that you guys have sent me have been very encouraging. Please keep them coming. To answer some of your frequently asked questions: 1) I did not take the video. I have downloaded the clip days after the tsunami hit, and when I realised it is not on YouTube, I decided to put it here for the world to see 2) The video is shot at Sunset Bay, by local Thais. It is evident from the recorded voices. Not sure what they are saying though - if there is someone whom knew, please let me know 3) I can't recall where I downloaded the clip from, so I can't show proper copyright attribution on this page. If anyone knows about this, please message me. I don't hold the copyright for this video, so you can use (or don't use) the clip at your own discretion 4) I am tired of all the racist and insulting comments some of you viewers left on this video. It offends many, it irritates me, it does no one any good. So I am deactivating all comments on this page.
